Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about caring for and cooking with your heirloom ironware.

How do I season my Smithey for the first time?

Every Smithey arrives pre-seasoned and ready to use. Simply give it a quick rinse with warm water, dry it thoroughly, and start cooking with a little extra oil or butter for the first few uses to build a deep, natural non-stick surface.

Can I use soap to clean my cast iron?

Yes, you can use a small amount of mild dish soap if necessary. However, most daily cleaning only requires hot water and a chainmail scrubber or stiff brush. Always ensure the pan is dried completely and lightly oiled after cleaning.

What is the difference between your cast iron and carbon steel collections?

Cast iron is thicker, retains heat longer, and is ideal for searing and baking. Carbon steel is lighter, more responsive to temperature changes, and features a handle designed for tossing and sautéing, similar to a professional chef's pan.

Do you offer international shipping?

We currently ship to all 50 U.S. states and select international destinations including Canada and the UK. Shipping rates and delivery times vary by location and are calculated at checkout.

What is your return policy?

We want you to love your ironware. If you are not satisfied, you may return unused products in their original packaging within 30 days of purchase for a full refund, excluding shipping costs.

Are Smithey products compatible with induction cooktops?

Absolutely. Because our cookware is made of iron and steel, all Smithey products are naturally magnetic and perform exceptionally well on induction, gas, electric, and glass cooktops, as well as open flames.
